Instructors

  • Aerobics Instructor-New Bedford YMCA
    General Function: The primary function of the aerobics instructor is to organize and instruct classes that enable participants to improve and/or maintain a healthy lifestyle. This is achieved by organizing and instructing classes that encourage individuals to set and achieve their own goals in a class situation, yet work at their own ability level.

    Entry Requirements: Instructors must have knowledge of basic anatomy, physiology, and kinesiology. They must be physically able to conduct demanding exercise classes and be able to teach using proper techniques and body alignment, also experience with non-step based classes preferred.. It is strongly recommended that instructors possess a current national certification (ACE, AFFA, ACSM). CPR and Standard First Aid must be kept current at all times.   • Lifeguards/Swim Instructor - Wareham, New Bedford, Fall River,  Mattapoisett & Dartmouth, part time
    Must have current Lifeguard, CPR and First Aid certifications. Must be at least 16 years of age.   • Rockwall Instructor/Belayer – Wareham – PT
    General Function: To organize and instruct classes in a safe manner.
    Entry Requirements: Must have knowledge of climbing gear and techniques. Must be physically able to conduct demanding climbing classes and be able to teach using proper technique. It is strongly recommended that the instructor pass a Rock Climbing Training Course.

  • Skateboard Instructor-Wareham - Part-Time
    We are currently hiring a part-time Skateboard Instructor. The primary function should be safety first, along with teaching youth skateboarding tricks. This position requires skills and experience in the supervision and leading of a wide variety of recreational, educational and social activities for children aged 8 to 14.

  • Tumbling Instructor-Wareham  - Part-Time
    We are currently hiring a part-time Tumbling Instructor. Classes will be held Saturday mornings. This position requires knowledge of tumbling or gymnastics and experience in supervising and leading recreational activities for children.

  • Rock Climbing Instructor (1 position)-Wareham -  Part-Time
    We are currently hiring a part-time for Rock Climbing Instructors. The primary function of the climbing instructor is to organize and instruct classes in a safe manner that enables participants to improve and/or maintain a healthy lifestyle. Instructors must have knowledge of climbing gear and techniques. They must be physically able to conduct demanding climbing classes and be able to teach proper techniques.   • Group Leaders (3 positions)-Wareham -  Part-Time
    We are currently hiring part-time Group Leaders on Tuesday & Thursdays from 3:00pm-5:30pm. This position requires skills and experience in the supervision and leading of a wide variety of recreational, educational and social activities for children aged 6 to 12. Previous experience preferred.

  • Gym Supervisors (2 position)-Wareham - Part-Time
    We are currently hiring for a part-time Gym Supervisors shifts are Monday-Friday 2:45pm-7:30pm depending on the work schedule.  The primary function is to interact with youth and to enforce the rules and regulations of youth program areas; Basketball Court, Computer Room, and Youth Room. Gym Supervisor should have experience in supervision and leading of a wide variety of recreational, educational and social activities for youth & teens.

  • Sports Enrichment Instructors (2 positions) - Wareham-Part-Time 
    We are currently hiring for a part-time Sports Enrichment Instructor.  This person should be upbeat, confident & energetic individual that can teach sports & recreation to primarily ages 3-6. Previous experience preferred but not required. Morning, afternoon, evening & weekend class available.

  • SITE COORDINATOR FOR AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAM – Dartmouth – Part-time
    GENERAL FUNCTION:
    Leading children, ages 6-11, in educational and recreational activities.
    ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
    Candidate must be a qualified person with skills and experience in the supervision of children ages 6-11. The candidate should be at least 21 years of age, have current CPR and First Aid Certifications and have previous experience in a child care setting.

  • GROUP EXERCISE INSTRUCTORS – Dartmouth – Part-time
    GENERAL FUNCTION:
    Supervise, instruct and lead members and guest of the YMCA in such a way as to ensure a safe, positive, educational and healthy experience.

    Must be a motivated individual and willing to organize and instruct day and evening classes.

  • SWIM TEAM COACH – New Bedford
    GENERAL FUNCTION:
    The Swim Coach is responsible for preparation, planning, and operation of the practices and meets, providing opportunities for personal growth of team members, and instilling good sportsmanship within team members.
    ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
    This position requires knowledge, skill and experience in coaching competitive swimming. He/she must be able to demonstrate good leadership abilities, mature responsible judgment, good human relation skills in dealing with youth team members and their parents, excellent organization, and the ability to work within the philosophy of the New Bedford YMCA.

  • ENRICHMENT PROGRAM INSTRUCTORS, MIDDLE SCHOOL AGED – Dartmouth – PT
    The Dartmouth YMCA is looking for qualified candidates in the following positions:

    1. Basketball Instructor – Candidate will lead and supervise various activities including warm up drills, skills and techniques, and general game rules. Candidate should have prior experience coaching and playing and enjoy working with children.
    2. Cartooning Instructor – Requires creativity, advanced drawing skills, writing skills, and an imagination to accompany those! Candidate should have prior experience and enjoy working with children.
    3. Basic Photography Instructor – Requires basic knowledge of the elements of photography and the important aspects of picture taking!
    4. Leaders Club Instructor – Requires leadership and facilitating skills for middle school aged children. Candidate should have an interest in helping to give back to the community and in developing young leaders.
    5. Newspaper Club Instructor – Requires leadership and facilitating skills for middle school aged children along with writing and literacy skills. Candidate should have prior experience with children and have contributed writing assignments to a local school or newspaper, etc.
    6. Scrap Booking Instructor – Requires a talented and artistic individual who likes working with children and is very organized and time conscious.
    7. Community Service Coordinator – Candidate will be responsible for planning, facilitating and executing service projects throughout the community for children ages 5-14. Candidate should have prior experience and have volunteered to local agencies.

  • ENRICHMENT PROGRAM INSTRUCTORS, ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AGED – Dartmouth – PT
    The Dartmouth YMCA is looking for qualified candidates in the following positions:
    1. Climbing Tower Instructor – Requires knowledge of climbing gear and proper teaching techniques. Candidate should be certified in belay training as well as CPR and First Aid Certifications.
    2. Dance Instructor – Requires knowledge of basic and advanced dancing techniques along with the ability to choreograph dance steps set to music. Candidate should have prior experience.
    3. Cooking Instructor – Requires good preparation skills and the ability to create tasteful and healthy recipes for children to enjoy and to be conscious of food allergies and familiar with the YMCA’s Activate America campaign.
    4. Space Instructor – Requires an interest in science along with basic knowledge of rocketry and computer skills.
    5. Drama Instructor – Requires creative improvisational skills and an extensive knowledge of dance techniques for children ages 5-12. Candidate should have prior experience in dance and working with children.
    6. Flag Football Instructor – Candidate will lead and supervise various activities including warm up drills, skills and techniques, and general game rules. Candidate should have prior experience coaching and playing and enjoy working with children.
    7. Arts & Crafts Instructor – Requires creativity and diversity for all projects ages 5-12. Candidate should have prior experience working with children and have a basic knowledge of the arts.

    GENERAL FUNCTION:
    The person selected for this position will be responsible for the general supervision mad management of a class of children between the ages of 2.9 through 5 years old.
    ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
    The person selected for this position must be professionally prepared as a teacher of young children, especially in the field of early childhood education or development, and must be ECC Certified. This person must be a sensitive and mature individual who is able to relate well to both children and adults. This person must have the personality and ability to provide leadership and stability for program and continuity.
