Camp Weetamoe Camp Descriptions
TRADITIONAL
Campers will engage in activities that will enhance their social-emotional skills. Our camp will keep them physically active, and challenge them to learn new things every day. Campers will participate in a wide range of sports, arts & crafts, STEM, and weekly themed events. Campers will be divided into age groups. (Session A-I)
Specialty Camps
In addition to our traditional option, Camp Swansea offers the following programs:
ACRO
This acrobatic camp will give children the opportunity to develop their skills and technique. All children regardless of experience or ability can benefit from this amazing, dynamic sport. (Session C, F, I)
ART MIX
Children will explore their creativity using different mediums of art. Camp is tailored to a variety of age groups, and feature many different art activities. This camp takes place inside and outside. Campers will participate in Traditional camp activities. (Session E)
BASKETBALL
Your camper will focus on building their basketball skills in this fundamental sports program. Daily activities include sport-specific skills and drills, as well as scrimmages. Children will be both inside and outside, and will participate in some Traditional day camp activities. This program is appropriate for both boys and girls. Our sports camps will focus on improving skills, as well as their character and good sportsmanship. (Session B)
BEACH VOLLEYBALL
Your camper will focus on building their volleyball skills in this fundamental sports program. Daily activities include sport-specific skills and drills, as well as scrimmages. Children will be outside, and will participate in some Traditional day camp activities. This program is appropriate for both boys and girls. Our sports camps will focus on improving skills, as well as their character and good sportsmanship. (Session C)
CAMP CHEFS
Sharpen your culinary skills under the supervision of a food service professional. It doesn’t matter if you are an experienced chef or just starting out, we’re cooking up delicious eats and sweets all summer long. We will be making new recipes each and every day, and some that you can take home, too! (Session D)
CHEER
Do you have spirit? Our cheer camp gives campers the chance to get active. Cheerleaders will build self-confidence and self-esteem while learning the fundamentals of cheerleading, including basic motions, jumps, cheers and chants. Session will culminate with a weekly performance. (Session B, E, H)
Counselors in Training
The final step to becoming a YMCA Role Model, this 8-week, immersive program will give participants the opportunity to experience various camp programs, assist in daily operations of camp, and receive valuable on-the-job experience. (Session A-I)
DANCE
Dance is a great physical and expressive outlet for your camper. Participants will learn various choreography and will work on progressions, technique, and team-building. Dancers will end the week with a final performance to showcase their talents. (Session A, D, G)
DEK HOCKEY
Your camper will focus on building their hockey skills in this fundamental sports program. Daily activities include sport-specific skills and drills, as well as scrimmages. Children will be outside, and will participate in some Traditional day camp activities. This program is appropriate for both boys and girls. Our sports camps will focus on improving skills, as well as their character and good sportsmanship. No inline skates please. (Session F)
FLAG FOOTBALL
Your camper will focus on building their football skills in this fundamental sports program. Daily activities include sport-specific skills and drills, as well as scrimmages. Children will be outside and will participate in some Traditional day camp activities. This program is appropriate for both boys and girls. Our sports camps will focus on improving skills, as well as their character and good sportsmanship. (Session H)
K’NEX ENGINEERING
Bridges, rollercoasters, and race cars – these are the foundations of this engineering camp. Using K’Nex building toys, campers will have the opportunity to explore their world as it relates to engineering principles. This camp takes place inside and outside. Campers will participate in Traditional camp activities. (Session D, I)
Leaders in Training
Your first step to becoming a YMCA leader. Appropriate for ages 13-14, this gateway program will instill our YMCA core values, and the necessary characteristics to one day become a YMCA Role Model. (Session A-I)
MAGIC CAMP
Learn the secrets to magic tricks and card tricks that you can show to your friends and your parents. This camp takes place inside and outside. Campers will participate in traditional camp activities. (Session A)
SCAMPER
Our take on a preschool-appropriate camp experience allows 4-5-year-olds the opportunity to learn, play and thrive in a supportive half-day or full-day environment. Full-day campers will have a 1-hour quiet/nap time. Half-day pick-up is at 1:00 pm. (Session A-I)
SHARK TANK
STEM in action! Have a brilliant idea, concept or invention? Work with a team to design the next great thing to impact the human race. Teams will design and create their invention, and present it to a panel at the end of their camp session. (Session H)
SOCCER
Your young soccer fan will get a KICK out of this camp, which focuses on building their soccer skills in this fundamental sports program. Daily activities include sport-specific skills and drills, as well as scrimmages. Children will be outside and will participate in some Traditional day camp activities. This program is appropriate for both boys and girls. Our sports camps will focus on improving skills, as well as their character and good sportsmanship. (Session D)
SPY CAMP
Have you ever dreamed of becoming a secret agent? Step into the shoes of a detective, and learn the science behind becoming a spy. Campers will work on their problem-solving and team-building skills to solve mysteries. (Session B)
SURVIVOR
Bringing STEM to the great outdoors, this program offers experiential learning with a focus on survival techniques. Focus on skills such as shelter building, land navigation, fire starting, knot tying, and so much more. (Session I)
SUPER SILLY SCIENCE
Have you ever wanted to walk on water? Well, that’s just one experiment you’ll discover in Super Silly Science. Explore the lighter side of science with daily experiments that will surprise you and might make you laugh. (Session C, G)
THEATRE
Campers will learn to create a character, work together as an ensemble, and memorize lines during this crash course to playmaking. The group will bring a play to life in just one week. Each session will culminate with an informal performance at the end of the week. (Session F)
