This 60,000-square-foot facility combines a historic look with a modern feel, complete with state-of-the-art equipment and resources you would expect of a large facility while maintaining its family feel and unique layout.

The YMCA New Bedford has been a wonderful and welcoming environment where I always feel supported and motivated. The staff is exceptionally friendly and professional, consistently going above and beyond to help members reach their fitness and wellness goals. The facility is clean, well-maintained, and offers a variety of programs that make every visit enjoyable and worthwhile. I wanted to send a mid-year, heart felt thank you for enrolling Layla in the Y's after school and summer camp program. She is doing great in kindergarten. In hew trimester progress report she is above grade level in reading, language and math. Also Layla received Student of the Month in January for Respect (Proud Gramma)!
All the skills she is learning in kindergarten are reinforced and emphasized everyday by her participation in her after school program. She loves the enrichment activities, swim days and most of all her caring an compassionate counselors. I cannot be more grateful for the assistance you've provided for my family and personally for the peace of heart and mind I experience knowing that Layla is surrounded by a community of carding people laying the foundation for her to succeed throughout her life!

Camp Frederick Douglass
Daily activities include gym and outdoor games, swimming, archery, drama, enrichment activities and so much more. Camp Frederick Douglass at the New Bedford YMCA honors the legacy of world-renowned African-American social reformer, abolitionist, orator, writer, and statesman, Frederick Douglass. In addition to our traditional camp games and activities, campers will learn about Frederick Douglass and the history of his time in the city of New Bedford through daily projects, field trips, museum visits, and hands-on activities.
Programs offered at the New Bedford YMCA: Preschool
New Bedford YMCA Early Learning Center is licensed by EEC and designed to meet the developmental need of young children in a caring, structured environment. We provide experiences that enhance each child’s cognitive, language, social, emotional, physical, and creative development.
Your child will participate in a variety of activities such as music, arts and crafts, dramatic play, outdoor play, and educational basics. At the New Bedford YMCA, your child will be given all of the tools needed to grow, learn, and be proud of their individual successes. Our Preschool staff works diligently to provide activities conducive to early learning in an environment that helps promote independence, self-esteem, and, most importantly, fun while learning! Every child also receives swim lessons during the school day!
